An impressionable young bride, Wanda (Brunella Bovo) accompanies her husband Ivan (Leopoldo Trieste) on a dull honeymoon, full of meetings with family members and the papal father. Bovo fantasizes over matinee idol Fernando Rivoli, AKA The White Sheik (Alberto Sordi), the hero of a photo strip comic. She repeatedly drifts away from her husband and back, in periodic attempts to find The Sheik, ultimately repairing to the location site where Sordi's latest film, The White Shiek, is in production. Her inevitable disillusionment with the vainglorious Sordi is intercut with her husband's comic (and desperate) attempts to explain his wife's absences at family gatherings to his disgruntled relatives. After a comically inept suicide attempt, Bovo and Trieste are reunited. Featured in the cast is Fellini's wife Giuletta Masina as a prostitute named Cabiria, who'd be given a vehicle of her own, Nights of Cabiria, in 1955. Based on "an idea" by Michelangelo Antonioni, The White Sheik was the main inspiration for Gene Wilder's The World's Greatest Lover (1977). Molto bravi anche gli altri. Yes, and moving, too, for the soursweet melancholy it's imbued with. At least such is my opinion. This compilation of Rota's work for Fellini as played by the Prague Philharmonic is a mixed orchestrations and tempi differ considerably from the originals. If you want to find out how these scores should be really played I highly recommend the Tutti Fellini compilation supervised by the maestro himself that came out on vinyl by Cam in Italy in '76.

See More Purtroppo siamo stati costretti a cambiare la modalità di vivere l’aperitivo perché per colpa di mol... te persone, sinceramente troppe, l’aperitivo stava diventando l’APERICENA, dove ad esempio con 5, 50€ molti clienti intendevano bere bene e saziarsi come in una cena (con Calice di vino di qualità, Buffet a libero servizio più volte fruito e Taglierino al tavolo), addirittura alcuni clienti volevano saziarsi al buffet avendo ordinato una tisana o una coca cola o un the al limone. Col passare del tempo questo comportamento ha creato forti ingiustizie perché i clienti che con una sola coca cola a 3, 00 euro o un solo caffè ad 1, 00€ (al tavolo!! ) svuotavano il buffet ripetutamente impedendo ad altri di poter trovare qualcosa. Per noi l’aperitivo è bere un buon cocktail fatto con ottimi ingredienti, un buon calice di vino di qualità e contemporaneamente, per chi lo desidera, stuzzicare qualcosa da mangiare per poi arrivare con ancora appetito alla cena. Oggi finalmente allo Sceicco c'è un modo diverso dagli altri locali di fare aperitivo, come già succede in altre grandi città europee, un cliente paga meno tutti i cocktails e meno tutti i vini e riceve un piccolo snack cortesia (patatine) … come molti clienti fortunatamente ci hanno testimoniato, se vuole solo bere bene per lui è solo un vantaggio. Se poi un cliente volesse stuzzicare qualcosa (e non cenare perché per questo ci sono i ristoranti e le pizzerie e mai vorremmo fare il loro mestiere) ha la possibilità come in Spagna di scegliere lui quanto e cosa mangiare tra un’ampia scelta di tapas servite al tavolo dove dalle 18:00 alle 21:00 il prezzo viene abbattuto del 50% (il prezzo normale è allineato al prezzo medio delle tapas in Spagna, dove tra l’altro il costo della vita è più basso). A rivedere questo video dopo molto tempo mi e' tutto chiaro! Alberto apprezzava Tortora e la sua imitazione (anche se ha espresso il suo apprezzamento in modo caustico) e nel finale del video dice chiaramente: Dite a quello che fa la mia imitazione su poltrona e con coperta di muoversi. sottinteso: cosi torno pure io a muovermi. Alberto era semplicemente abbattuto dal suo malessere e non gli e' riuscito di essere piu' effervescente. Tortora e' salvo. The first Fellini film I've seen, where I actually understood the plot. A nome di tutti gli Italiani : TI VOGLIAMO UN GRAN BENE. ciao Alberto. Capolavoro si sa, tra l'altro osservando certe chiome si evince come il parrucchieree pour femmes non fosse ancora stato inventato. I do not believe that in the history of cinema, there is such an extraordinary duo between Nino Rota and Federico Fellini. The ensemble of his music and the action is amazing. This makes me feel that I am back in Italy.

Aroldo Tieri fantastico,Ardoldo Foà comico a sorpresa,bellissimo film. While not one of my favourite Federico Fellini films, this is one of his best early films, almost as good with Il Bidone and on par on I Vitelloni. As ever with Fellini it is beautifully filmed with a touch of quaintness, and his direction is restrained compared to his later films and with a mischievous touch of comedy and fantasy. Nino Rota's score is rousing and cheerful, almost like being at a carnival, while the writing is funny and moving- one of the most beautiful lines of any of Fellini's movies is "Our real lives are in our dreams, but sometimes dreams are a fatal abyss" and the story is comically precise and sympathetic. The characters are engaging, again while not as identifiable as La Strada and Nights of Cabiria they are not detached as Casanova and Satyricon. Alberto Sordi's performance is top drawer as the dissolute titular character, while Leopoldo Trieste is arresting in his comic timing and Brunella Bovo is wonderfully innocent and entrancing. Giulietta Masina would go on to do even better performances like in Nights of Cabiria but she is still terrific. Overall, a great Fellini film. 9/10 Bethany Cox.
